A $1.8 million federal grant will be used to help retrain laid-off miners in West Virginia.

U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va) and Congressman Nick Rahall (D-W.Va) on Thursday announced the grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

United Mine Workers of America Career Centers in Beckley and Ruff Creek, Pa., will manage the grant, which will assist about 200 workers.
