A much needed grant will provide hundreds of laid off miners training to get back on their feet.

$1.8 million from a federal grant will help 200 people by providing re-employment services.

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller along with Congressman Nick Rahall announced the funds provided by the U.S. Department of Labor.

United Mine Workers Of America Career Center in Beckley and Ruff Creek in Pennsylvania will manage the funds.

Miners laid off March 1st of 2012 or after are eligible to benefit from the grant.
