UBB Memorial Granite Slabs Leave Beckley in Style

The granite slabs that will become the UBB Memorial in Whitesville received a police escort to their final location.

The slabs were loaded up on flatbed trailers at Beckley Crane on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 a.m.  West Virginia State Troopers are giving the convoy an escort to their final resting place in Whitesville.  The slabs will be set to create a permanent memorial for the 29 miners who died in the explosion at the Upper Big Branch Mine on April 5, 2010.

Placement of the six stones and the entrance sign is expected to take until Friday, July 19.
