WV Hospital Employees Talk About Work Conditions

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

West Virginia state hospital employees are bringing their concerns to the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Employees, members of the West Virginia Public Workers Union and other supporters are set to visit the state agency's headquarters in Charleston on Tuesday.

In a news release, the union says workers have been raising complaints and concerns with local management and the West Virginia Bureau for Behavior Health and Health Facilities for more than a year. The complaints include understaffing, mandatory overtime, unsafe working conditions and inadequate staff training.

The union says the working conditions are making it difficult for state hospital employees to provide the proper level of care for patients. It has said it intends to sue if the violations aren't resolved.
