UNION -
State Troopers are canvassing Monroe County for a man who has been missing for more 8 days.
Neighbors tell 59 News missing man Harry Alfriend would walk from his home on Elery LLyod Road to a nearby creek to fetch some water during the power outages earlier this month.
Cadaver dogs have been brought in to search the trails behind 56 year old man's house. State Troopers said Alfriend went missing 8 days ago and would frequently walk these trails with his two dogs. But fire fighters who joined in the search said that those same rugged trails Alfriend loved so much are making the search much more difficult.
"There is a lot of wooded area up and down the mountains. Several different burrows and different mountain sizes we had to climb and 40 trails we had to search. He could have been anywhere with brush piles and trees down. And we had to climb those obstacles as well," Marisa Dunbar, Union Assistant Fire Chief said.
And to make matters even more serious, Alfriend is a cancer patient struggling with type one diabetes.
"He needed to have his other medicines and he didn't and that could lead to the worse possible scenario," Dunbar said.
Dunbar said exposure to the elements for 8 straight days is extremely dangerous but he is still hoping for the best. She encourages the community to come forward because any detail can help the search efforts.
"If you live up around them, go out and check around your house. Just to see, just to take that second chance to look out for your neighbor that is an important thing," Dunbar continued.
If you've seen Alfriend or have any information about his whereabouts you are asked to call state police at 304-77205100.
