Business As Usual in Beckley after Batman Movie Massacre

Posted: Updated:

While cities and theaters across the country are tightening security after the deadly shooting in Colorado, it's business as usual in Beckley.

Managers at the Marquee Cinema said Saturday the theater is still selling out tickets to the latest batman flick, and that they haven't seen any decline in sales since the attack.

Managers expect to maintain regular security operations with assistance from the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department through the weekend.

On Friday, Raleigh County's Emergency Manager Kevin Taylor weighed in on whether Southern West Virginia would be prepared in the event of a copycat attack.

"Unfortunately if history tells us anything, we can't prevent such occurrences from happening. Unfortunately, that's the world in which we live in. You hear of these tragedies at sporting events and at the movies. You think you're going out for a nice outing with family and friends and this is the outcome," said Taylor.

Taylor added that while that no amount of training or preparation could have prevented something like this, it is always a good idea to pay attention and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places such as the movies and sporting events.
