A Mercer County woman facing child porn charges has left many parents wondering how this type of crime can be prevented.

Child advocates in Raleigh County weighed in on Monday with tips on how to prevent this from happening to your child.

Just for Kids, Inc., works with local law enforcement, Child Protective Services and the Prosecuting Attorney's office to support children traumatized by sexual abuse.

They serve Raleigh, Fayette and Wyoming counties.

Child Advocate Tim Vickers said it begins with parental involvement.

"Let the child know and do a lot of reinforcing that they can tell you as the parent anything that happens," Vickers said. "Anytime they feel scared, anytime something happens to their body that they don't like that they can come straight to you and talk to you personally."

Vickers said you should always know who your kids are with, where they're going and do lot of homework on who you're leaving them with.

He recommends being open and honest with your child and letting them know there are clear boundaries.
