HUNTINGTON -
United States Attorney Booth Goodwin said on Monday that a Cabell County doctor has plead guilty to violating federal drug control laws.
Dr. Anita Dawson, 55, of Milton, West Virginia plead guilty to aiding and abetting in obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, and subterfuge.
Dawson admitted to writing prescriptions for addictive pain medications to an individual that she knew was seeking the medication for an addiction and other inappropriate reasons.
She further admitted to prescribing more than 6,000 pills containing oxycodone to the same individual between 2006 and 2009.
Dawson's medical license was suspended by the West Virginia Board of Osteopathy in April of 2010. She then voluntarily gave up her license permanently.
Dawson faces up to four years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
