Trent Roush shoots 3 under to lead W.Va. Amateur

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (AP) -

Mason's Trent Roush has a one-stroke lead after the first round of the West Virginia Amateur.

Roush shot a 3-under-par 69 Monday at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs. One stroke back is Bridgeport's Jay Woodward.

12-time champion Pat Carter shot 71. He's tied for third with Chris Williams of Scott Depot and Wheeling's Joey Seabright.

No matter what, there won't be a repeat champion this year.

Last year's winner, Charleston's Christian Brand, turned professional this year. In fact, the last champion in the field is Carter, whose last win came in 2006.

Fairmont Senior High School golfer Nicholas Sinclair was 3 under through seven holes before finishing at 3-over 75.

Hurricane's Sam O'Dell, who tied for second last year with Fairmont's Jess Ferrell, shot 74. Ferrell shot 80.
