The following is a press release from Concord Athletics:

In addition to preparing to make a run at its second West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in three seasons, the Concord University baseball team will also be donating 1,000 hours of its time to help the local community this year.

The "1,000 Hour Project" will require each player and coach to spend 25-30 hours of their time partaking in community service projects during the 2012-13 academic year.

"We have 3 things we talk about often in our program: graduate, compete for championships and be ambassadors of our program/institution," Head Coach Andrew Wright said.  "I believe in launching this project, we are taking the next step into truly becoming one of the nation's most well rounded programs.

Our team GPA has steadily climbed each semester over the last 3 years, we have continued our tradition of being one of the WVIAC's strongest baseball programs and although we have always done some form of community outreach, this is the last piece of the puzzle. We have a roster of close to 40 people of very high character who know how to work and we are looking forward to getting out into the community and making a difference."

Concord finished the 2012 season with a 26-27 overall record and a 20-15 mark in the WVIAC. The Mountain Lions closed the season by winning 11 of their final 13 games of the season.
