State officials are proposing raising various taxes, including those on cigarettes, in order to raise money to repair the damaged highways.

During the 2012 legislative session, the West
Virginia lawmakers passed a bill that designates
August 7 as a special day to honor mountaineers who were wounded or killed in
action while serving in the armed forces.
To mark the inaugural observation of this day, Concord
University will hold a brief
outdoor ceremony on its Athens
campus.
Community members and veterans who wish to take part in he
ceremony are invited to attend a brief program in front of the Marsh Memorial
Carillon, where a moment of silence will be observed at noon. The event is sponsored by Concord
University's Office of Veterans
Affairs.
