ATHENS -

During the 2012 legislative session, the West Virginia lawmakers passed a bill that designates August 7 as a special day to honor mountaineers who were wounded or killed in action while serving in the armed forces.

To mark the inaugural observation of this day, Concord University will hold a brief outdoor ceremony on its Athens campus.

Community members and veterans who wish to take part in he ceremony are invited to attend a brief program in front of the Marsh Memorial Carillon, where a moment of silence will be observed at noon. The event is sponsored by Concord University's Office of Veterans Affairs.
