Teachers, Parents Take Advantage of Tax-Free Shopping in Tazewell County

Posted: Updated:

People are hitting the stores in Virginia this weekend for some tax-free shopping.

During the three-day weekend, school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item, are exempt from sales tax.

Shoppers in Tazewell County said every little bit helps when it comes to stretching their dollars.

And it's not too late to head out.

"They seem to be fairly well stocked for what we were after, so it wasn't a big deal," explained Jennifer Lowe, a teacher, "because we actually ran errands all day and we just now got here a few minutes ago."

Shoppers can save money statewide in Virginia through the close of business Sunday.
