Up
in Morgantown, the Mountaineers had yesterday off after three straight
practices. The coaches looked at film to get a better idea of what
they have.
One thing they do know they have is a great
athlete in Shaq Petteway. He's been down the depth chart as a DB, but
they couldn't ignore his athleticism, so they have decided to move him
to inside linebacker just to get him on the field.
Petteway said he's up to the challenge.
"I put a couple of pounds on," he said. "I'm
up to like 228. "Coach Patterson came to me and coach Dunn came to me
and told me basically I'm too good a player to sit behind Terrence
Garvin and they need my on the field. So I'm gonna be inside backer, a
little bit more rotation at inside backer than we do at star backer."
Co-Defensive Coordinator Keith Patterson agreed.
"One immediate impact that I've seen is his
athleticism," said Patterson, "You know we've talked about this all the
time with spread offenses, you have to be able to make plays in space
and Shaq can definitely do that."
