After losing its first game of the 2011 season, Greenbrier West reeled off nine straight wins and headed into the playoffs with a heedful of steam.

But the Cavalier ran into Braxton County, 42-14.

West returns about half of its starters on both sides of the ball. But they will not return to Class AA. The Cavaliers will be in Class A.

"We're one of the biggest Single-A schools so we could be bounced back and forth, so if we go loading up our schedule with Single-A's and four years we could be in bad shape," head coach Lewis McClung said about possibly moving back to AA in a few years.

Greenbrier West still plays AA opponents. It kicks off the season on August 24 with a visit to Nicholas County.
