2 W.Va. senators appointed to energy board

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

West Virginia Senate President Jeff Kessler has appointed two state senators to serve on the Southern States Energy Board.

The appointments of Democrats Doug Facemire of Braxton County and Art Kirkendoll of Logan County were announced Monday.

Kessler says Facemire's role as chairman of the Energy, Industry and Mining Committee makes him a solid choice for the board. He says Kirkendoll has vast experience in local and state government and knowledge of the coal industry.

The nonprofit board was established in 1960 to enhance economic development and the quality of life in the South through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies. The board comprises 16 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
