The sudden and abrupt announcement Raleigh General Hospital has put a stop to cardiac stent surgery has been causing a lot of concern within the community.
KANAWHA FALLS -
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office tells 59News that the body of David Jones, 47, of Powellton was recovered from the Kanawha River on Tuesday afternoon.
Searchers located the body at around 1:30 p.m. just west of Gauley Bridge. It was found about one mile downstream from where Jones was originally reported missing.
The search began at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4. A cadaver dog was brought in on Sunday. It lead searchers to a particular part of the river. On Monday, Aug. 6 searchers started using an underwater camera to look beneath the surface of the river.
Jones was reportedly trying to swim across the Kanawha River when he disappeared. The Fayette County Sheriff said that there were a lot of rumors about what happened, but he said the search was not a murder investigation.
"Although it appears to have drowned, only the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner can determine a formal cause and manner of death," said Sheriff Steve Kessler.
The body was taken to the Charleston, WV for autopsy. The search for Jones included personnel from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, National Park Service and volunteer fire departments.
