Mixed Reaction after MSU and UC Advisement Sessions

Posted: Updated:

Mountain State University's campus was buzzing with more activity on Tuesday than the uptown campus has seen in months.

Students were going from building to building to learn more about their college career options after the Higher Learning Commission pulled accreditation earlier this summer and University of Charleston plan to take over the Beckley institution come January 1st.

Tuesday Mountain State University and the University of Academic Advisors, counselors, and financial aid representatives were talking with students about what's next for their college careers.

Some of the students who spoke with 59NEWS said they are 50/50 on the whether they thought the program was helpful or just too confusing.

Melissa Rogers was going into her junior year at MSU and said she doesn't want to leave , but has to, "honestly if I could have stayed here on this campus that's what I would have like to have done for three years.. But oh well I guess its time to move on."

Rogers said she is leaning on going to Bluefield State College to enroll in their radiology and technology program.

Christian Chambre is an MSU student who admits to feeling let down, "I think this whole process is defeating. So what can you say, it is what it is. You try to push on and try to accomplish something with what you got."

Chambre said he is still trying to figure out what to do with the credits he has completed and still needs to finish.

Leaders with the University of Charleston will be at Mountain State University's Martinsburg campus on Thursday to meet with students about what's next for them.
