Crews spent several days searching for the body of David Jones, 47, since he went missing  while swimming.

The body was located about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kanawha River.

Jones' body was found just west of Gauley Bridge, approximately one mile downstream from where he was initially said to have disappeared.

Tina Jones said her brother David was attempting to swim across the river when his friend lost sight of him Saturday.

She has been waiting for his return since she heard the news.

"Even though I don't like that he's coming out the way he is, I'm glad that we're gonna be able to put closure to it," Jones said.

Jones went missing late Saturday evening and the search has been ongoing since Sunday morning.

Several organizations have participated in the search.

Jones' body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Charleston for an autopsy.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said while it does appear he drowned while swimming, they will wait for the report to determine an official cause of death.
