One Week Later, Mercer County Shelter Still Under Quarantine

PRINCETON -

59 News is working for you tonight to see if the Mercer County Animal Shelter is still under quarantine a week after dogs started getting sick.

Shelter workers said they are still under that quarantine and expect to be for another week.

Workers are asking for the communities support until they can begin taking in dogs again.

"People in the community if they have animals that are not updated on their vaccinations they should update their animals. If you have a stray and you can, call us and we will help you get the vaccinations for it before you bring it in. So that way when you bring that animal in it is already protected," Lisa Williams, Director of the Shelter said.

Five dogs have been put down due to the outbreak of distemper and parvo.

She said the illnesses have not impacted cats at the shelter and they're encouraging cat lovers to come on out.
