Miners Take First Game in Championship

BECKLEY -

Statistically, the West Virginia Miners allowed the fewest runs during the Prospect League regular season.

The Miners used strong pitching, once again, in the first game of a best-of-three series in the league championship against Dubois County.

Starter Sam Lewis pitched a complete game, and struck out 18 in a 4-2 win at Linda K. Epling Stadium.

Bradley Strong, Clayton Prestridge and Matt Chavarria all drove in runs for the Miners. Joseph Williams was the only Miner to collect two hits.

West Virginia leads the series, 1-0. The next two games (if necessary) will be in Dubois County on Saturday and Sunday.
