Cases of Whooping Cough Reported in Mercer County

Mercer County health department director, Melody Rickman says there are seven cases of pertussis, or whooping cough in the county.

The illness is caused by bacteria and happens in children more often than adults.

It can be spread through saliva, sneezing and touching an infected person.

Whooping cough can be treated with antibiotics.
