Official says W.Va. hospital closure necessary

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -

A Camden Clark Medical Center official says Parkersburg's emotional attachment with St. Joseph's Hospital is understandable, given its rich tradition and history.

But interim marketing director Tim Brunicardi says the closure of St. Joseph's is necessary to move forward. He tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel (http://bit.ly/RJPzxW ) that Camden Clark represents the best of both institutions.

Camden Clark officials announced last week that St. Joseph's campus will close within four years due to costs and a deteriorating physical plant. Its workers and operations will be consolidated into the Memorial campus.

West Virginia United Health System merged St. Joseph's with Camden Clark in 2011 to form one regional medical center.

The Sisters of St. Joseph established the hospital more than 100 years ago.
