FAIRLEA -
Whether it's sunny outside or if it's raining, there are things to do when you head to Greenbrier County for the state fair of West Virginia.
Whether you're visiting the animals at rest or watching them win ribbons for their owners, there is plenty to see at this end of the fair while staying dry.
And it's also educational.
Mckayla Dodson said, "People who are from different parts and don't understand what these people go through I think it's very important to get them interested in agriculture and maybe to get them to join into FFA and 4H."
And what does agriculture mean?
Dodson said, "Without agriculture we wouldn't have food or clothes or anything like that and how important it is."
Yesterday, almost 200 people gathered in a tent to watch the live birth of a calf.
Remington Perkins of Perk Farms said, "It's almost as fun to watch the expressions on people's faces from the inside as it is for the kids to watch the calf being born. Some of them are 'aweee' some of them are 'ewwww'."
They've birthed 10 calves already and plan on showing 10 more before the fair is over.
Perkins said, "It's really neat and important for kids to know how things work."
And of course there is plenty of shopping to do indoors.
Under the grand stand like usual but this year there is a new area just for hunting and fishing.
One sportsman said kayaking on white water has always been a big sport in West Virginia but they have a different kind of kayak specifically for fishing.
Kyle Hurt said, "There's a lot of fishermen out there that want to get in the water so now we have angular kayaks available so we can get them to the places where they need to be fishing."
All this and there's even more.
