The annual youth livestock auction at the State Fair is giving opportunities to those in agriculture programs to make some money off of their hard work this year.

The auction took place today at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and there were several hundred animals being auctioned off.

The youth in local 4H and FFA programs sold market goats, steers, lambs and hogs.

Along with the hundreds of animals under the tent were hundreds of bidders.

Local businesses and people came out to support the youth by purchasing the projects that they spent all year raising.

Brooke Lester said, "I'm hoping for a profit that's my goal every year. I always come out."

The buyers have the option to keep the animal for their own consumption or to donate it back to the livestock association.

Last year at the sale the animals that won champion status in competition sold for a least $2,000 each.

The kids that are able to make a profit from their sale said they use the money for next year's project to continue their education in agriculture.
