Three McDowell County Residents Killed in Crash

Three McDowell County residents were killed in a three-vehicle crash in southwestern Virginia.

Five other people were injured in the Saturday morning accident on Route 21 in Wythe County.

According to Virginia State Police, Florence J. Braxton, 52, of North Fork,  Taurean A. Walker, 30, and Rufus S. Jones, 59, both of Eckman, died. They were in a minivan that was struck head-on by a northbound pickup truck that crossed into the southbound lane. The truck sideswiped a sport-utility vehicle before hitting the van.

Three passengers in the van and one in the SUV were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The pickup driver, John C. Parker, 32, of Jackson, Miss., was hospitalized with serious injuries. He's charged with reckless driving.
