Alderson-Broaddus joining new conference

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) -

Alderson-Broaddus College is leaving the West Virginia Conference to join the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference next year.

Alderson-Broaddus President Rick Creehan announced the school's move Sunday night.

An NCAA Division II membership committee approved the conference earlier this year. It is based in Indianapolis. Charter members of the conference are Cedarville University, Central State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Trevecca Nazarene University, Urbana University and Ursuline College.

Alderson-Broaddus is adding 10 sports in the next two years, including football, bringing its offerings to 22 teams.

In June, nine football-playing members of the WVIAC announced they were leaving next year to form a new all-sports league. Those schools include The University of Charleston, Concord, Fairmont State, Glenville State, Seton Hall, Shepherd, West Liberty, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan.
