The Jaws of Life Was Pulled Out in Shady Spring

Posted: Updated:

Monday evening Ghent Volunteer Fire Fighters were in training using knifes tools, and their brains to figure out the proper way to open a vehicle in the event of an accident.

Six of the fire fighters have been training for a year with the crew to learn all they can before having to implement extraction in real life action.

Ghent Volunteer Fire Chief Jim Belcher was on hand to guide the six fire fighters along with other leaders from the department.

"It's better to slowdown and work it out," said Belcher who was using the Beverages Towing Company in Shady Spring for the training.

Belcher said having the training in a controlled environment is best, "This is good because it takes a lot of the pressure off of us we don't have cars whizzing by 60, 70, 80 mph on our butt. Fighting traffic, worrying is that patient going to expire on us."

The Ghent Volunteer Fire Department will be holding two classes in September for a basic operation and technician's class.
