'Why Do Fools Fall in Love?' Opens Wednesday at GVT

LEWISBURG -

It's a question first posed by Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers in 1956. Although decades have passed, the now iconic question is ready to burn as Greenbrier Valley Theatre presents the ‘60s hit musical, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?," a dinner theatre.

The production, which features more than 20 well-known songs from one of music's most beloved eras, offers a trip down memory lane.

Set in 1966, the show features Sally, Florence and Dee Dee as they gather for an impromptu bachelorette party celebrating Millie's upcoming wedding.

As the evening progresses -- with the help of a few drinks -- secrets spill and the girls begin revealing scintillating details about their love lives, including some interesting information about Millie's fiancé.

The show is a dinner theatre presentation as audiences are invited to enjoy a delicious meal catered by Lewisburg's Jim's Drive-In one hour before each performance.

The four-person cast is comprised of Amy Bebout as Dee Dee, Holly Holcomb as Millie, Sierra White as Florence and Dana Wilson as Sally.

The show is under the direction of GVT Artistic Director Cathey Sawyer and musical direction of Lauren Darrell. Donald Laney serves as the choreographer and Micah Simms as the assistant choreographer.

"Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" opens Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with a preview/pay-what-you-wish performance scheduled for Aug. 22. Additional performances are Aug. 24, 29, 30 and 31 and Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. A 2 p.m. matinee will take place Sept. 1.

Show and dinner tickets are available by phone at 304-645-3838, online at www.gvtheatre.org or in person at 113 E. Washington St. in Lewisburg. Dinner must be reserved ahead of each performance.

GVT offers several discounted tickets including special prices for opening weekend, seniors, students and those traveling from out of town.
