As the aftershocks of the Beckley Police Dept. investigation bombshell ripple across the area, addiction specialists in Southern West Virginia say the impact is far-reaching.

"It's a monster. It's widespread. It leaves no one untouched, no matter what social class you're in. It's everywhere," said Mark Pfau, an addiction specialist at Brian's Safe House.

On Thursday, Pfau said the prescription pill problem is crippling Southern West Virginia.

Although no addiction issue is the same, Pfau said there are several common signs of someone suffering from a prescription pill addiction. They include a change in behavior, self-centered attitude, stealing, lying, and cheating, among others.

Brian's Safe House is a 13-month program fro men in Beckley, which focuses on rehabilitation through clean-living and fellowship.
