W.Va. forest to hold wildlife-watching challenge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

Kanawha State Forest is offering a wildlife-watching challenge.

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says the state forest is holding the challenge on Saturday to sit silently long enough to observe wildlife that will wander by

Sara Miller, a summer naturalist at the forest, says the activity is about challenging people to be quiet and patient enough to watch nature. Miller will help participants determine how to be undetected by wildlife and how to choose best areas to set up for specific species.

Officials say challenge-takers should meet at the forest at 6:30 a.m., wear earth-toned clothing and reduce or use scentless soap.

There is no charge to participate, but registration is required. Anyone interested in taking the challenge to call the forest at 304-558-3500.
