BECKELY -
In just a two hours Beckley common council will hold their weekly meeting. And what's not on the agenda is the recent issues surrounding the Beckley police department.
Mayor Emmett Pugh tells me the investigation is to premature to be discussed and the sea has asked for no comments until the investigation is complete.
But here is what we know right now...
59News broke the story for you of the Beckley police department evidence locker ...being audited after an evidence technician abruptly left on medical leave.
In the initial report, we uncovered that 200 prescription pills were unaccounted from the evidence locker... causing Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney, Kristin Keller to predict a very large number of cases to be dismissed.
"Scores.... what's more than scores? Hundreds.... that's a possibility," Kristin Keller, Prosecuting Attorney said.
Going on right now thee DEA is continuing their investigation into the evidence locker just to find out how many cases this will impact and we took to the streets to find out what folks want to hear from local leaders.
"I want to know why this has just come up what made them decide to see that the drugs were missing," Toyna Smith said.
"They should be investigated to the highest level," Eugene Ashes of Beckley said.
"We need answers and we need and we need our people that way pay and vote into positions to do their jobs," Darryl Fairchild of Sophia said.
