Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin ordered all U.S. and State flags displayed at State facilities be immediately lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, Aug. 29. They will remain lowered until further notice in honor of a fallen West Virginia State Police Trooper. Last night's incident in Wallback also injured another State Police Trooper and one Roane County Sheriff's Deputy.
Here is the text of Gov. Tomblin's statement:
"The men and women who serve in uniform are always there for us and we can never take that for granted. Today I ask all West Virginians, when you see law enforcement officers, please thank them. Take a moment to shake their hands and say 'thank you', because they work every day to keep our families and our communities safe," Gov. Tomblin said. "Joanne and I continue to pray for these brave men and women and ask that all West Virginians join us."
