Oak Hill Native Luke Baber Named in Clay County Shootout

West Virginia State Police have released the name of the shooter that killed a State Trooper on in Clay County on Tuesday night.

They confirm that Luke Baber, 20, of Oak Hill was pulled over at the Wallback Park and Ride along Interstate 79.

Baber was handcuffed and apparently shot Cpl. Marshal Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman with a weapon that State Police said may have been hidden in his pants. 

Col. Jay Smithers said Baber was searched.  Baber was later killed in a shootout with deputies from Clay and Roane Counties. 

A tow truck driver and a deputy from Roane County were also wounded over the course of the night, but neither of their injuries were life-threatening.  Trooper Workman remains in critical condition at Charleston Area Medical Center.
