West Virginia's economy survived the Great Recession, but the job market didn't fare as well.

According to a report by the Center on Budget and Policy the state lost more than 21,000 jobs during the economic crisis and it would have to add about 27,000 jobs to regain its pre-recession employment rate.

The report says the typical worker in West Virginia now makes more than a dollar per hour less than the national average and that less than half of workers receive employer-funded health insurance.

The center recommends raising the minimum wage and creating a plan for the anticipated decline in coal.
