Charleston officials have announced that the city will host a pair of military conventions in 2014 and 2017.

Mayor Danny Jones and the Convention and Visitors Bureau say the two meetings combined will have more than a $3.1 million economic impact on the city.

First will be the 2014 National Marine Corps convention. The Marine Corps League last month voted 800 to 30 in favor of Charleston's bid for the convention, which is expected to have at least 1,000 participants.

Nearly 1,800 participants are expected for the 2017 Enlisted Association of National Guard of the United States conference.
