Summers County volunteers broke ground on Phase Two of the John Henry Historical Park on Thursday.

Community members and volunteers from the Americorps are laying the groundwork for a new trail system located next to the Great Bend Tunnel.

"We grow up, we live here, we work here. We may not recognize everything we have but when the boy scouts come, it's going to be like no other place in the world," said Jack Woodrum, Summers County Commissioner.

Rick Moorefield, with the WVU Extension Service said boy scouts would be completing service projects at the site next summer when they arrive for the 2013 Jamboree.

"It sets an example. It's just that can do, work hard, get it done type of attitude that represents all of that," added Moorefield.

Woodrum also hopes next year's visitors will inspire people to come back to the state.

"Boy scouts have traditionally gone on to be leaders in the nation. Introducing them to West Virginia and setting an example is just a great thing for us. These people are going to grow up and bring their children back," added Woodrum.
