Concord Loses to No. 8 Winston-Salem St.

ATHENS, W.Va. (AP) -

After storming back to beat Lenoir-Rhyne in its season opener, Concord couldn't weather a storm to beat No. 8 Winston-Salem State.

The Mountain Lions lost 30-22.

Concord took the early lead when it returned a blocked punt for a 7-0 lead.

After that, the Rams took over the lead and never surrendered.

In a game with heavy rain, Zack Grossi went 23/39 for 269 yards. He threw two touchdowns and one interception. His primary target was Ansel Ponder-who hauled in seven passes for 117 yards and a score.

The Mountain Lions didn't get much on the ground. Chris Rodriguez rushed eight times for 27 yards.

On defense. Jake Lilly led the way with 11 tackles.

Concord drops to 1-1 and hosts Charleston, next Saturday at 1 p.m.
