CHARLESTON -

The West Virginia Center for Professional Development will honor 20 principals Wednesday as "Principals' Leadership Academy Distinguished Scholars."

The center will honor the administrators for their exemplary work during completion of the Academy last year.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the facility's Bright Ballroom A and B.

All new principals are required by the state legislature to complete the Academy to help them establish a solid foundation of professional practices that will impact student learning.

The honorees include:

  • Amanda Billmeyer- Potomack Intermediate School, Berkeley County
  • Denice Corder- Clay-Battelle Middle/High School, Monongalia County
  • Jennifer Cox- Skyview Elementary School, Monongalia County
  • Jonathan Denham- West Fairmont Middle School, Marion County
  • Robert Dodd- University High School, Monongalia County
  • Christopher Good- Tiger Morton Juvenile Center and Donald R. Kuhn Juvenile, WV Department of Education
  • Deborah Haun- Straley Elementary School, Mercer County
  • Heather Holbert- Johnson Elementary School, Harrison County
  • Lori Howington- Fall River Elementary School, McDowell County
  • Laura Kasey- Central City Elementary School, Cabell County
  • Matthew Keener- Taylor County Middle School, Taylor County
  • Chris Laumann- Pleasants County Middle School, Pleasants County
  • Melissa Lawrence- Cedar Grove Middle School, Kanawha County
  • Jeffery Matthews- Bluefield Middle School, Mercer County
  • Alyssa Mick- Oak Glen Middle School, Hancock County
  • Deborah Starr- Burch Elementary School, Mingo County
  • Jill Steele- Nutter Fort Intermediate School, Harrison County

The Distinguished Scholars' Dinner is held in conjunction with the first session of the 2012-2013 PLA for New Principals.
