Celebrating Constitution Day

Monday, September 17th is Constitution Day, and Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 brave men on September 17th 1787.

On Monday some area students will be learning more about the constitution in their classrooms.

At PikeView High School the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution will be holding an assembly in front of the student body at around 2 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Concord University will be honoring the day by learning more through a symposium entitled, "Teaching the Constitution."

The program is at Room 303 Rahall Technology Center starting at 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The event will feature a panel of discussion including Dr. William O'Brien, coordinator of the Center of Study of American Constitutionalism & Civic Responsibility, Dr. David Bard who is a professor of history, Mercer County Board of Education Member teacher Paul Hodges.

Dr. Sally Howard, associate professor of political science, and Dr. James White, professor of political science will serve as moderators.

The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission for the symposium.
