BECKLEY -

Beckley Police were questioning a suspect in stabbing which happened just after noon on Monday, Sept. 17.

Officers told 59News the stabbing took place at 12:21 p.m. on Neville Street near McBee's Irish Pub. 

According to police Randy Jennings, 26, stabbed Jamie Clay multiple times and then took off the scene, because this happened in the middle of the afternoon numerous people were out and about watching the fight escalate.

Beckley Police later found Jennings and charged him with unlawful wounding.

Beckley Patrolman Timothy Capehart was one of the officers who responded to the call. He said he was surprised the stabbing happened at the particular location and time, "To happen in day light in uptown is extremely uncommon to happen."

Jennings was taken to Southern Regional Jail. Clay had surgery for this apparent stab wounds at a local hospital we will keep our 59News viewers up to date on Clay's progress.
