Pumpkins Ready Early Despite Harsh Summer

LEWISBURG -

This summer's lack of rain, extreme temperatures and a few damaging storms has made it a difficult time for farmers in West Virginia.

But many farmers are seeing success as they head out to pick their pumpkins for fall.

One farmer in Greenbrier County said last year, his pumpkin crop came in late and sales were not as expected.

But this year, he's one of the first to be selling them.

James Wikle said, "We got them out at the time this year at the time I think they should go out which is the middle of June and they're just now coming in. The ones I have here today are some of the first of our pretty good crop this year."

The Greenbrier Valley Farmer's Market is open every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 until 1.

This Saturday, August 22nd, the market will host an Autumn celebration with live music and games for kids.
