The state of the economy is on everyone's minds right now. With prices all around on the rise and unemployment numbers high, 59 News wanted to know how folks are dealing with their thin wallets.
59 News crews stopped by the Carpenter's Corner where lunch is served up almost every day... FREE to those who need it.
"It helps out a whole lot.... they've been doing a good job. I've been coming back and forth for the passed 6 or 7 years and it really helps out great," Robert Curry said.
For folks like Robert Curry living on a limited income really has it challenges. He said without the meals from Carpenter's Corner, he would not know WHEN he was getting his next bite to eat. And Curry's story is a common one.
"Some of them come in here and say they haven't eaten in several days," Jeanie Bowman, Volunteer at the kitchen said.
Bowman said the demand to feed the HUNGRY is so great, she would like the kitchen to be open every day of the week....The problem?
Not enough people are willing to volunteer their time.Bowman says the "able" should be ready and willing to answer the call of the needy because after all in a recession... the tables could turn at any time.
"We never know when that lay off could come, or when that injury or that illness could come... you never know when you will be on the receiving end and we've had so many instances when people said wow that is amazing to be on the receiving end of such generosity and such kindness," Bowman said.
