Democratic West Virginia Supreme Court candidate Tish Chafin has received the support of state educators.
The West Virginia Education Association Political Action Committee announced Sept. 21 it endorsed Chafin in the race. WVEA is the state's largest teacher organization. It's membership includes classroom teachers, professional staff, education support professionals, higher education faculty and classified staff, future teachers and retirees.
"Tish Chafin will make an excellent Supreme Court justice," WVEA president Dale Lee said in the news release announcing the endorsement. "Her strong ties to education through the West Virginia Education Alliance and the Marshall Board of Governors show her strong commitment to West Virginia schools."
Chafin, the wife of state Sen. Truman Chafin, D-Mingo, has traveled the state during her career, visiting each county's courthouse.
"When I traveled to all 55 counties during my term as West Virginia State Bar president, I gained great perspective on the diversity of our state and the needs of our legal system," Chafin said. "I learned how important it is to have Supreme Court justices who are willing to listen and able to provide the necessary leadership to address the problems facing our state's judiciary and the citizens it serves."
Chafin is vying against three other opponents for two seats on the bench. Her opponents are Democrat Robin Davis and Republicans Allen Loughry and John Yoder.
