The Concord University volleyball team won its third consecutive match
Wednesday night by defeating Bluefield State 3-0. The Mountain Lions
earned the win with set victories of 25-8, 25-8 and 25-10.
CU's latest win pushes its overall record up to 6-10 and evens its mark
in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition to 1-1.
Bluefield State dropped to 0-6 on the season overall and 0-2 in the
WVIAC.
The Mountain Lions' three-match winning streak is just one victory shy
of matching the 2011 CU team's four-match winning streak, which is
longest streak in the last four years of the program.
Concord had another strong night on the attack as the Mountain Lions
combined for a .469 hitting percentage. Leading the way was Sarah Jones,
who had a perfect match after converting all eight of her attack
attempts into kills.
Helping Jones was a balanced attack of Concord players that featured
four Mountain Lions with at least four kills. Jasmin Sutherland and
Kylie Perdue had five kills while Erin Asbury and Dabbrielle Stevens
both chipped in four kills. Asbury also made a team-high seven digs.
Amanda Walker, who has served at least two aces in a match six times
this season, totaled a match-best three aces with Jones and Asbury both
serving two aces of their own. Walker also passed out 12 assists, second
only to teammate Nikki McMillan's 14 assists.
The Mountain Lions' defense featured three players with at least two
blocks. Annamaria DiLascio had a season-high three blocks with Danielle
Compton and Chelsey Walker both adding two blocks.
The match was never in question, with Concord opening up and maintaining
double-digit leads in each of three sets en route to the triumph.
Concord will take its momentum on the road where it will look to extend
its win streak with two conference matches this weekend. CU plays at
Pitt-Johnstown 7:00 p.m. Friday and at Shepherd Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
