Residents in a Shady Spring home are displaced after a fire burnt down their home on Tuesday evening.

People across East Park were headed to bed Wednesday night when they were awakened by gunfire.

Multiple shots were fired when four men broke into a home on 6th Street in Beckley and killed Shawn Rucker of Beckley, police said Friday.

Presently, investigators are in the process of following up on leads, but said no arrests have been made at this point.

"We're continuing to interview possible witnesses and collecting evidence from the crime scene to send to West Virginia State Police," said Capt. Jeff Shumate with the Beckley Police Department.

When asked whether Rucker knew his attackers, Captain Jeff Shumate said it's still unclear. "There is some evidence to suggest it's a possibility, but until that investigation is complete, we will not know fore sure."

Rocked by tragedy, this tight-knit community remains on high alert as the search for suspects continue.

"Anytime you see something or hear something suspicious, I encourage you to contact law enforcement to see what is going on around your residence," Shumate adds.

Although Beckley Police are stepping up patrols and maintaining additional officers in their East Park office, detectives are asking residents to report suspicious activity to police or to Crimestoppers at 304-255-STOP.
