MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -
If American agriculture is going to meet the challenges of the next 40 years, it's going to need more schools like West Virginia University producing people who see careers in the field and have a passion for science.
That's the message coming Friday from Caird Rexroad at a seminar at the Morgantown Event Center.
Rexroad is an associate administrator of the Agricultural Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His visit is part of WVU's year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Land Grant University System.
The research service oversees 800 USDA research projects under a $1.1 billion budget. It focuses on solutions to agricultural problems, dissemination of information that ensures safe food, and assessment of Americans' nutritional needs.
Rexroad is a West Virginia native and Army veteran.
