Ansted has recently been named as one of the best "51 Mini Family Vacations" in the U.S. by Parenting Magazine. This list focuses on mini-vacation destinations that are both fun and cheap.
Ansted, located in the middle of whitewater rafting county, offers plenty of fun options for the entire family.
"It is very nice to be recognized in Parenting's Mini Vacation listings as a worthy stop," Ansted Mayor R.A. "Pete" Hobbs said in a release. "Fall brings a wonderful time of the year to Ansted when the many colors of autumn abound and our Hawks Nest Rail Trail is at its very best. Don't miss the newly placed interpretive signage telling the geology story of the New River Gorge and the prehistoric Teays River."
Hawks Nest State Park, located along the beautiful New River Gorge, offers breathtaking views, camping, lodge accommodations, hiking, and an aerial tramway that transports visitors to the bottom of the New River Gorge.
The nearby Mystery Hole offers a "gravity defying" experience that you must "see to believe."
The Fayette County town also offers the Ansted Culture and History Museum, the Contentment House (home of Ansted's first mayor), the Page-Vawter House (coal baron house) and the gravesite of Stonewall Jackson's mother.
