Concord Places Second at WVIAC Championships

DAVIS -

After a tough opening round, the Concord University women's golf team came on strong in round two, finishing in second place over the weekend at the 2012 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf championships. CU began the second round in fourth place before making a day-two charge to net the second-place finish.

The Mountain Lions posted a two-round tally of 646, 10 shots off of conference champion Wheeling Jesuit's 636. Seton Hill came in third at 658 followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (670) and Charleston (673) to round out the top-five.

Concord was led by Stephanie Peareth and 2011 WVIAC Medalist Marina Erice. Peareth recovered from a shaky opening-round score of 82 to shoot a 75 on Saturday to finish at 157, which was good enough to place fifth overall. Erice finished in a tie for sixth place by carding a 158 (82-76).

Final individual results for the majority of the field, including Concord's Justine Knox, Shelby Myers and Alex Smith have not yet been made available by the league office.

Last season, CU finished the WVIAC Championships in fourth place with a team-total of 687.

Concord will now break for the winter months before returning to competition in the spring.
