CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

About 21,000 West Virginia homes and businesses remain without power as utility crews continue restoring service knocked out by Superstorm Sandy.

FirstEnergy expects to restore to electricity to most customers by late Friday.

Its website Wednesday shows Preston County with nearly 6,000 customers still in the dark. Randolph County is a close second with more than 4,000 outages, followed by 3,000 in Upshur and 2,000 in Barbour.

Webster and Tucker counties now have fewer than 2,000 people apiece without power.

Appalachian Power's website showed only 128 people without power, all in Raleigh County.
