WYTHEVILLE, Va. (AP) -

Federal prosecutors are organizing a conference on prescription drug abuse next week in southwest Virginia.

The conference will be held Nov. 14 at the Wytheville Meeting Center.

Among those scheduled to make remarks are U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy and National Drug Control Policy Chief of Staff Regina LaBelle.

The event is open to the public.

Heaphy says the conference's goal is to raise awareness of the social, economic and other costs of prescription drug abuse and develop recommendations to combat the problem.

In July 2011 an educational forum on prescription drug abuse was held in Wytheville for more than 100 local health care providers.
